Second-Generation Sound and Technology

Sonos Ace Ultra is the second generation of premium wireless over-ear headphones from American audio company Sonos. Released in September 2026 at $449, the headphones introduce a redesigned acoustic system, improved noise cancellation, and expanded integration with the Sonos home audio ecosystem. Available in Black, Soft White, Agave, and Sand, they represent the company’s latest approach to personal listening.

The new model features custom 40 mm drivers, a 10-microphone system, and up to 35 hours of battery life with noise cancellation enabled. Sonos has also introduced more advanced sound customization, improved wireless connectivity, and replaceable batteries and ear cushions to extend the headphones’ useful life.

A New Standard for Sonos Audio

Sonos Ace Ultra uses newly engineered 40 mm drivers developed with input from Grammy- and Oscar-winning audio professionals. The headphones support lossless audio through compatible Bluetooth devices or USB-C, along with Dolby Atmos spatial audio and dynamic head tracking. Adaptive EQ automatically adjusts the sound to compensate for changes in fit, while the Sonos app provides three-band and eight-band equalizers for more detailed customization.

A 10-microphone system powers the next-generation Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, which continuously adjusts to external sounds and changes in how the headphones sit on the listener’s head. Sonos claims up to twice the noise reduction of the original Ace at certain low frequencies.

Aware Mode allows environmental sounds to pass through, with Voice Boost providing additional clarity for conversations.

Comfort, Controls and Battery Life

Sonos Ace Ultra retains the clean, understated appearance of the original model, with a matte finish, adjustable headband, and generously cushioned ear cups. Physical controls include the multifunction Content Key, dedicated noise cancellation button, and Bluetooth controls. Automatic wear detection pauses playback when the headphones are removed, while multipoint connectivity makes switching between devices more convenient.

Battery life reaches 35 hours with active noise cancellation enabled, and a three-minute rapid charge provides up to three hours of playback. The headphones weigh 322 g (11.36 oz) and include a protective travel case. Replaceable ear cushions and an accessible battery replacement system address long-term ownership and maintenance.

Sonos Ecosystem Integration

One of the Ace Ultra’s most distinctive capabilities is its connection to the wider Sonos home audio system. TV Audio Swap allows listeners to transfer audio from a compatible Sonos soundbar directly to their headphones using the Content Key. Dolby Atmos spatial audio and dynamic head tracking provide an immersive listening experience, while TrueCinema adapts the headphone presentation to the characteristics of the listener’s room and soundbar.

The new Headphone Linking feature extends this functionality to compatible Sonos speakers, allowing music to move between speakers and headphones through Wi-Fi. Currently available through an opt-in Early Access program, the feature also enables additional headphone control through the Sonos app. It introduces a more flexible relationship between private listening and the connected speakers throughout a home.
