The Wonder Behind Wonderskin

Wonderskin was founded by Michael Malinsky, Marina Kalenchyts and Doug Cooper with a focus on developing cosmetics that use innovative formulations to improve color performance and longevity. Launched in the early 2020s. The brand initially gained recognition for its unusual lip-staining technology, which introduced a new application process to everyday makeup.

The company expanded its product portfolio and international distribution as interest in its lip stains grew. With operations in London and New York, Wonderskin has developed into a prominent independent beauty brand, attracting significant investment and extending its presence across retail and digital channels.

The Magic Behind the Masque

Wonderskin’s signature Wonder Blading technology uses a specially formulated lip masque to deposit color that lasts beyond conventional lipstick applications. The product became recognizable for its vivid blue-purple masque, which is applied to the lips and removed to reveal a softer, wearable shade underneath. Depending on the product, removal involves wiping or peeling away the masque.

The resulting stain is designed to resist water, smudging and color transfer, making it suitable for extended wear without frequent reapplication. Wonderskin has carried its emphasis on longevity into other cosmetic formulas, including waterproof eyeliners and eyeshadow sticks developed for comfortable, lasting color.

Lip Stains, Eye Makeup and Skincare

The Wonder Blading All-Day Lip Stain remains Wonderskin’s defining product, available in a range of shades suited to everyday and statement makeup looks. Its lip collection also includes complementary liners, glosses and treatments designed to expand the possibilities of long-wearing color.

Beyond lip products, the brand produces the 1440 Longwear Eyeliner, IYKYK Eyeshadow Stick and pHLUSH color-changing blush, alongside complexion products and skincare treatments. These additions reflect Wonderskin’s broader interest in multifunctional formulas, convenient application and makeup designed to maintain its appearance throughout the day.

Viral Breakthrough

Wonderskin’s rise was closely connected to social media, where demonstrations of its blue-purple lip masque attracted attention for the dramatic transformation from application to finished color. Beauty creators helped introduce the product to wider audiences, turning the Wonder Blading process into recognizable content across TikTok, Instagram and other platforms.

The visibility supported growing consumer demand and expansion into international retail markets. A $50 million minority investment led by Insight Partners in 2025 marked another significant step in the company’s development.
