Luxury Lifestyle Hotel Brand by Marriott

EDITION Hotels is an international luxury hospitality brand established through a partnership between American hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott International in 2007. The brand opened its first property in Waikiki, Hawaii, in October 2010, introducing a new hotel concept that combined boutique hospitality with the resources and global reach of one of the world’s largest hotel companies.

Positioned within Marriott’s luxury portfolio, EDITION operates alongside brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and W Hotels.

The EDITION Hotel Concept: The Anti-Hotel Chain

EDITION follows a philosophy of creating individually designed hotels that reflect the personality of their destinations. Described by the company as an “anti-hotel chain,” the brand gives each property its own architectural identity, interior design, and connection to the surrounding community.

The design approach emphasizes residential-style comfort, carefully selected furnishings, natural materials, and thoughtfully arranged public spaces. Many properties occupy architecturally significant buildings, while others introduce contemporary structures that complement their surroundings.

Ian Schrager and the Boutique Hotel Revolution

Ian Schrager is an American entrepreneur and hotelier widely credited with helping establish the modern boutique hotel industry. He first achieved international fame as the co-founder of Studio 54, the legendary New York nightclub he opened with Steve Rubell in 1977.

Schrager and Rubell entered the hospitality industry in 1984 with Morgans Hotel in Manhattan, introducing a concept centered on distinctive design, intimate surroundings, and a fashionable social atmosphere.

Schrager subsequently developed several influential properties, including the Royalton and Paramount hotels in New York, Delano in Miami Beach, and Mondrian in Los Angeles. He later established the Ian Schrager Company and introduced PUBLIC Hotels, continuing his work in hotel development and design.

Dining, Nightlife, and Guest Experiences

Restaurants, cocktail bars, and entertainment venues play a prominent role at EDITION properties, with many designed to attract local residents alongside hotel guests. The brand collaborates with established chefs and hospitality professionals to develop dining experiences that reflect the culinary culture of each destination.

Wellness and leisure facilities vary by location. Urban hotels frequently offer luxury spas and fitness centers, while resort properties provide experiences such as private beaches, expansive swimming pools, and outdoor recreational activities.

EDITION’s Growing Global Portfolio

EDITION has expanded from its original Hawaiian location into an international collection of luxury hotels across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. As of October 2026, the brand lists 23 operating destinations across 12 countries, with properties in major cities and established leisure destinations.

Further developments are planned for cities including Milan, Kuala Lumpur, Riyadh, and Cape Town, alongside additional properties in North America and Asia. EDITION is also extending its presence into branded luxury residences, establishing the name in the high-end residential property market.
