Florida’s Growing Chicken Tender Empire

Huey Magoo’s is an American fast-casual restaurant chain founded in 2004 by Matt Armstrong and Thad Hudgens in Oviedo, Florida.

Specializing in chicken tenderloins, the company began as a locally operated restaurant before developing into a national franchise business. Its expansion accelerated under the leadership of Andy Howard, a former Wingstop executive who helped establish the chain’s modern franchise strategy.

Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, Huey Magoo’s has grown from its Central Florida origins into a multistate restaurant brand, with approximately 92 locations operating across the United States as of October 2026.

The Art of the Perfect Tender

Huey Magoo’s made its identity on what it calls the “Filet Mignon of Chicken,” using the tenderloin, a small, naturally tender portion of the chicken breast. The restaurant prepares its chicken fresh to order, offering hand-breaded and grilled varieties with signature sauces and seasonings. Its focused menu extends to sandwiches, wraps, salads, and family meals, with an emphasis on consistency and ingredient quality.

The restaurants feature a casual, family-friendly atmosphere, with modern interiors, counter service, and convenient takeout options. Many locations also offer drive-thru service.

The Road to 200 Restaurants

Florida remains Huey Magoo’s largest market, accounting for 43 restaurants, followed by Georgia with 18. Together, these states represent approximately two-thirds of the chain’s locations. Its remaining restaurants are distributed across ten additional states, primarily in the Southeast and Midwest, with a smaller presence extending to Nevada. Expansion plans for late 2026 include additional Florida restaurants and openings in Missouri, West Virginia, and Texas.

The company is also pursuing development opportunities in Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Virginia. With approximately 200 franchise restaurants signed for future development.
