The Self-Taught Artist Changing the Beauty Industry

Danessa Myricks is a self-taught American makeup artist, educator, and beauty entrepreneur. Her career began in publishing, where exposure to professional photoshoots inspired her interest in makeup artistry. Following the closure of her employer, she pursued the profession independently, developing her skills through experimentation and hands-on experience.

She subsequently worked in product development for established cosmetics companies, including Benefit Cosmetics, gaining experience that helped shape her entrepreneurial ambitions.

Myricks founded her namesake brand to address limitations she encountered in the beauty industry, particularly the availability of products for deeper skin tones and unconventional creative techniques. Her vision centers on making makeup accessible to people of every race, gender, age, and experience level.

She advocates for beauty as a means of self-expression, encouraging individuals to explore their creativity, develop confidence, and establish their own definitions of beauty.
