A New Cultural Landmark From George Lucas

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a Los Angeles museum founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson and opened in Exposition Park in September 2026.

Dedicated to visual storytelling, its collection spans illustration, comics, painting, photography, murals, cinema and popular culture, with more than 40,000 works represented across the institution.

The museum occupies a 300,000 sq ft (27,870 sq m) building designed by Ma Yansong of MAD, surrounded by a 13-acre (5.3 ha) landscaped campus. Its inaugural exhibitions fill more than 30 galleries with works ranging from historic narrative art to modern film imagery.

George Lucas

George Lucas is an American filmmaker, producer and entrepreneur whose work reshaped modern blockbuster cinema. He created Star Wars and Indiana Jones, founded Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, and helped advance visual effects, digital filmmaking and theatrical sound.

His interest in narrative art also extends far beyond film; Lucas began collecting illustration while in college and spent decades assembling works by artists including Norman Rockwell, N. C. Wyeth, Frank Frazetta, Charles White and Frida Kahlo. That collection became a foundation for the museum he co-founded with Mellody Hobson, where Lucas continues to direct the institution’s artistic content.

Dining & On-Site Amenities

The Lucas Museum has enough on-site amenities to stretch a visit well beyond the galleries. Skywalker Grill, the museum’s full-service rooftop restaurant, serves modern American food with California ingredients and panoramic Los Angeles views, and remains open beyond museum hours. A separate café provides a quicker option inside the building, while the museum store carries merchandise inspired by the collection. Visitors also have access to the surrounding park and gardens without a museum ticket, along with public gathering areas and learning spaces throughout the campus.
