Six Years Later

The Avalanches return with No Bad Memories, their fourth studio album and first since 2020’s We Will Always Love You. Released October 16, 2026, the 31-track project finds Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi, and Andy Szekeres pursuing a brighter, more energetic sound, with electronic dance music, pop melodies, and an assortment of unusual samples.

Originally conceived as a short, uncomplicated party record, the project gradually expanded into another elaborate musical experiment.

The Soundtrack of Forgotten Memories

No Bad Memories examines how advertising, consumer products, and technology become intertwined with personal memories.

Forgotten jingles, familiar ringtones, and computer startup sounds evoke decades of commercial culture. The concept extends beyond the music through Takumi Digital Archives, a fictional company created with visual artist Jonathan Zawada.

A Musical Collage of Familiar Sounds

The Avalanches transform fragments of existing recordings, advertising jingles, and electronic sound effects into densely layered compositions. Together, featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss, incorporates the familiar Nokia ringtone into a fast-moving electronic track.

Every Single Weekend, featuring Jamie xx, emphasizes the album’s dance-oriented direction, while Can’t Get Over Losing You highlights its melodic side. Brief interludes and fictional commercials connect the songs, giving the record the unpredictable flow associated with the group’s earlier work.

Familiar Voices and Unexpected Guests

The album features an unusually varied guest lineup, including Jamie xx, Karen O, Panda Bear, Rivers Cuomo, Mike Patton, and Japanese electronic pioneer Haruomi Hosono. Suzanne Ciani, celebrated for her pioneering synthesizer work in advertising, appears on Our Love Is Alive, while Carly Simon’s 1985 recording Make Me Feel Something is sampled on One More Fantasy. Actor Haley Joel Osment also contributes voice performances to the fictional commercials, extending the album’s advertising concept into its guest appearances.
