The Bizarre Truth Behind the Camera

You Can See Everything is a 2026 documentary directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, following Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes during the final 34 days before she enters federal prison. Given extraordinary access to Holmes and her family, the filmmakers capture an intimate and increasingly complicated portrait of a woman whose public image has been defined by scandal.

The nearly three-hour film gradually expands beyond Holmes herself, examining the relationships between the participants and filmmakers, and raising uncomfortable questions about trust, manipulation, and the nature of documentary truth.

The Rise and Fall of Theranos

Elizabeth Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, promising to revolutionize medical testing through technology capable of performing numerous blood tests using only a few drops of blood. The company attracted prominent investors and achieved a valuation of approximately $9 billion before investigations revealed serious problems with its technology and business practices.

Convicted in 2022 on four federal fraud-related counts, Holmes began serving her prison sentence in May 2023. The documentary revisits the extraordinary gap between her carefully cultivated image as a visionary entrepreneur and the consequences of the deception that brought down her company.

The Man Standing Beside Elizabeth Holmes

_{Elizabeth Holmes with Billy Evans}

Billy Evans, Holmes’ partner and the father of their two children, plays a substantial role in You Can See Everything. Initially appearing as a supportive presence during Holmes’ final weeks of freedom, Evans becomes increasingly involved in the filmmaking process, discussing his family’s circumstances and attempting to shape how their story is presented.

His interactions with Fielder and Oppenheim introduce another layer to the documentary’s examination of public perception. Evans’ efforts to defend Holmes and manage the family’s image become an important part of the unfolding narrative, revealing the tensions that arise when private lives become the subject of public scrutiny.

The Unpredictable Art of Documentary Filmmaking

Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim approach their subject with an unusual degree of personal involvement. Fielder, known for Nathan for You and The Rehearsal, brings his fascination with constructed situations and human behavior, while Oppenheim contributes his experience documenting unconventional personalities and intimate social environments.

Their extended access to Holmes and her family creates a complicated dynamic in which the filmmakers themselves become part of the story. Questions about trust, control, and the influence of the camera emerge naturally from their interactions, giving the documentary an unpredictable quality.
