The Slow Horses Return for Season 5

The fifth season of Slow Horses premiered on Apple TV on September 24, 2025, bringing six new episodes of the acclaimed British espionage thriller. Adapted from London Rules, the fifth novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House series, the season follows another dangerous assignment involving MI5’s disgraced intelligence agents.

The storyline incorporates political tensions, intelligence failures, and competing interests within Britain’s security establishment. The investigation unfolds through unexpected developments, dangerous encounters, and the questionable decisions that have become a hallmark of the series.

The Man in Charge of Slough House

Gary Oldman returns as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant, foul-mouthed MI5 veteran responsible for managing the intelligence service’s most troublesome employees. His appalling hygiene, endless insults, and apparent indifference to professional standards remain central to the character’s appeal.

Oldman delivers another commanding performance, capturing Lamb’s abrasive humor, calculated behavior, and occasional flashes of concern for the people under his supervision. His delivery of the character’s increasingly outrageous dialogue remains one of the show’s greatest pleasures.

Slough House’s Most Confident Misfit

_{Roddy Ho played by Christopher Chung}

Christopher Chung receives a considerably larger role in Season 5 as Roddy Ho, Slough House’s gifted computer specialist and resident egomaniac. His unexpected relationship with a glamorous new girlfriend immediately raises suspicions among his colleagues, who struggle to imagine anyone willingly tolerating his personality.

Chung embraces Roddy’s absurd confidence, delivering some of the season’s funniest moments through his exaggerated reactions, misplaced assumptions, and obliviousness to the people around him. His expanded involvement gives a familiar supporting character a particularly entertaining opportunity to shine.

The Slough House Ensemble

The fifth season reunites the show’s eccentric collection of intelligence agents, whose professional shortcomings and complicated personal histories continue to shape their relationships. Jack Lowden returns as River Cartwright, the ambitious young operative whose determination frequently places him in dangerous situations. His ongoing efforts to prove his abilities remain an important part of the team’s dynamic.

The ensemble’s familiarity with their characters gives the fifth season a strong sense of continuity. Their arguments, uneasy loyalties, and occasional moments of genuine camaraderie make the relationships within Slough House as engaging as the intelligence work itself.
