The Stonewater Kingdom Reaches Its Endgame

The Stonewater Kingdom is Rachel Gillig’s gothic romantasy duology, following prophetess Sybil Delling through a world shaped by faith, prophecy, dangerous magic and a kingdom built on stories that may not deserve to survive.

Book one, The Knight and the Moth, ended with Aisling Cathedral destroyed, Rodrick Myndacious, Bartholomew & Maude presumed dead, and Sybil taken by King Benji, who makes her his bride as he tightens his control over Traum.

The Knave and the Moon begins almost immediately from that point, sending Sybil into a new struggle involving Benji’s tournaments and a mysterious competitor with no name or memory.

Author Rachel Gillig has become one of the defining names in modern gothic romantasy. Her earlier Shepherd King duology has sold more than three million copies, while The Knight and the Moth debuted as an instant #1 New York Times bestseller. Her combination of dark fairy-tale atmosphere, romance and unusual magic systems has helped make her one of the genre’s fastest-selling authors.

The Moon Rises Over a Broken Kingdom

The Knave and the Moon wastes little time returning to the fallout of the first book. Sybil is trapped inside Benji’s growing display of power, while tournaments across Traum give the sequel a new structure and introduce the nameless knave who may offer her a way forward. The story remains rooted in Gillig’s signature mix of gothic fantasy, romance, strange magic and sharply drawn characters. Book two has a quicker pace carrying the duology toward its conclusion.

The sequel puts more pressure on the mythology and relationships established in The Knight and the Moth, while giving Bartholomew and the wider cast plenty of room to remain memorable.

The romance stays important without swallowing the larger story, and the book’s darker turns are balanced by humor and tenderness. Gillig closes the duology with an ending that feels deliberate and emotionally complete, making The Knave and the Moon a satisfying payoff for readers already invested in Sybil, Traum and the strange faith holding the kingdom together.
